True, if all you do is enter the chords to the song, all BIAB will do is play backup. In the above quote from Texasbanjo, I think she inadvertently implies far fewer uses for BIAB than it actually has, for banjo students. That's ALL it does, play backup, but it's a great backup band to have. All you need to do is key in the chords to whatever song you want to learn and it'll play backup for you. There are also 5 "styles" that come with that package and they are much better (in my opinion) than the Jethro style in BIAB. Once you purchase BIAB, go to and download over 200 FREE backup songs. You might check out, or look at some of the vendors here on the Hangout. Some places will have it on sale much cheaper than you can get it at PGMusic. Now, I also recommend that if you're using it for learning bluegrass that you get the basic package and forget all the bells and whistles - you won't need them. You can loop songs to play over and over and over and there's never a complaint from BIAB (G). All you need to do is key on the chords to whatever song you want to learn and it'll play backup for you. For beginners, it might be a little intimidating. There is a zip file floating around here that has 250 bluegrass songs already loaded in BIAB format. Some of the instruments are midi and in the 2008 version the drums, sax, and rhythm guitar are real soundtracks in some of the styles.

I tried it a few times with the same result. I could not click anything and had to close Mixcraft with my task manager. I selected it and immediately, Mixcraft became irrecoverably frozen. I opened Mixcraft and, sure enough, BIAB showed up under VST Plugins. I was psyched because it came with a Plugin for DAWS and was reported to work very well with most DAWS.
